As the world becomes increasingly concerned about environmental issues, railroads are gaining attention as a sustainable means of transportation. However, in the UK, there are approximately 3,000 diesel trains running every day, which is a source of air pollution. With the UK government's goal of decarbonizing the transport sector by 2040, the electric train, Class 385 was delivered to Scotland's Railway in 2015. The Class 385 is designed to be environmentally friendly, with 18% higher energy efficiency compared to the diesel vehicles used in the past, lower noise, and zero CO2 emissions. This video features Lorna McDonald of Hitachi Rail Limited, who discusses Hitachi's green mobility initiatives through the Class385 and next-generation battery trains, as well as her desires on the future.
